The Times surprise gamers by giving away 1000 Lara Croft downloads

In a very unexpected and surprising move today, The Times gave away 1000 free codes to download latest Summer of Arcade title Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Codes were gone shortly after, but many gamers are left very pleased.

SavyGamer on Twitter were first I saw on the scene, before it became widespread within minutes (the power of social networking) and 10 minutes afterwards they were all gone. All it required was a name and email address before a code instantaneously popped on screen, the process could be repeated multiple times.

The annoying thing – some sites and tweeters are now exploiting this by using the codes as a giveaway on their Twitter to gain attention and followers, then consider themselves to be somewhat famous because of it. Ego boost or what?

Now I know why I had such a hard time trying to get it for review from PRs. Damn Square Enix.
